Opened a few weeks ago, on the Lungarno just south of Piazzale Michelangelo, a new art space has opened its doors and made a strong impression on Florence, Italy.
With over 500 square meters, Keil Space is a futuristic venue that stands out as a new kind of space, a fresh territory, in which we are introduced to artist Sam Keil’s work in a unique, avant-garde light. Her presence in Florence flows from a direct dialogue between her work and the Renaissance city. Keil Space distances itself from Florentine tradition, suggesting a new and distinct emotion in the perception of art.
Sam Keil is a London-born, Florence-based artist. She is a multi-disciplinary talent, as she combines the latest technologies with a reverence for classical art to create a fresh and moving body of work, light-years ahead of the more traditional contemporary styles seen today.
Keil Space is an innovative multi-sensory experience that combines the power of art with the human senses; sight, scent, and sound. The area is stretched across six rooms, each inhabited by a specific mood. Spatial emotions are determined not by what’s on the floor or what hangs from the wall but by the individual’s initial impression. The visitors are invited to reflect on their reality in a territory that is worlds away.
The space plays with the idea of the observer and the observed through an interpretive connection and communication; the art unites them. Keil’s work at Keil Space is a part of her “New Generation” collection, where she shifts her focus and approaches her in-depth study and prior accomplishments with a fresh perspective. Her bronze casts, made with an exceptional and highly unusual depth, are meant to be integrated into many facets of contemporary life and improve circumstances for living holistically.
The Keil Space exhibit is built as a multisensory experience incorporating various artistic, technological, and scientific disciplines; Keil Space is curated with the subject in mind. The venue’s scenography is designed as a multi-dimensional, multi-sensory experience to enhance brain function and focus through heterogeneous stimulation.
Keil continues to push boundaries and question conventional art ideas in her space. Reaffirming her status as a pioneer in cutting-edge arts and its applications, her creative and technological inventions at Keil Space are anticipated to impact the art community and the city of Florence significantly.
